Introduction

Trauma is universal, invisible, and pervasive.

In an era marked by global challenges such as the ongoing effects of a pandemic, disasters, geopolitical conflicts, and social inequities, the need for integrating trauma care has never been more critical. As Bessel van der Kolk aptly states in his seminal work, “The Body Keeps the Score,” trauma is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by that experience on mind, brain, and body (van der Kolk, 2014).
You can still have trauma even if it happened to someone else. Studies have shown that seeing something happen to somebody you care about can also produce the effects of that type of traumatic experience in you. An example is how the murder of George Floyd by a police officer impacted the mental health and safety of Black Americans. A 2021 study found that black American communities more than others reported an increase in depressive and anxiety symptoms after repeated news of police brutality more

Why Integrated Trauma Care

This comprehensive training program is designed to equip professionals across human services industries with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to provide effective, compassionate care and service delivery in a world where trauma has become increasingly pervasive. As the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) emphasizes, that is not just about treating trauma but about shifting the paradigm to ask, “What happened to you?” instead of “What’s wrong with you?” (SAMHSA, 2014), and now that paradigm must extend to service delivery across industries.

The compounding nature of recent global events underscores the urgency of this training. The pandemic and economic recession have not only been a source of direct trauma for many but have also exacerbated existing traumas and inequalities. Climate-induced disasters are displacing communities and disrupting lives at an unprecedented rate. Ongoing conflicts and social unrest continue to create new trauma survivors daily.

The Solution

For professionals in human services – whether you’re a healthcare provider, educator, social worker, or community leader – understanding trauma and its impacts is no longer optional; it’s imperative. As Peter A. Levine notes, “Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence” (Levine, 2015). By becoming trauma care practitioners, we can play a crucial role in breaking the cycle of trauma and fostering resilience in individuals and communities.

This training offers three levels of engagement – Foundation, Professional, and Coaching Certification – to meet you where you are in your professional journey and equip you with the tools to make a meaningful difference. By integrating trauma care, you’ll enhance your professional practice and contribute to a more compassionate and resilient society.

Join us in this vital mission to transform service delivery, and care, support healing, and build a world more capable of preventing and addressing trauma. The time for a trauma-free society is now, and your role in this paradigm shift is crucial.

Apply now and be on your way to becoming a catalyst for change in your field and in the lives of those you serve.
